Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnetic particle inspection finds surface and near-surface cracks in ferromagnetic materials. A yoke or contour probe magnetizes the part, magnetic particles are applied, and a defect shows as a build-up of particles at the leakage field. It is used on welds, castings, forgings and structural steel in fabrication, maintenance and in-service inspection.
