- Heat-treated, high carbon steel mainspring, precision centerless ground and calibrated to meet or exceed ASTM D2240-81
- Special cam gives a 100-point scale deflection when the indenter is displaced exactly 0.100 in
- Dial scale extended over 240 circular degrees for reading accuracy within +/-1 point
- Resettable ancillary hand records the peak reading; threaded mounting knob for permanent test stand mounting
- Test block: aircraft grade aluminum with a steel leaf spring giving a reading within +/-1 of its value
